YARROW — Warrior’s Herb · Healer’s Touch · Meadow Guardian | Plant Bible

A warrior’s herb with a healer’s touch — bridging the battlefield and the meadow.

Botanical name: Achillea millefolium
AKA: Soldier’s Woundwort, Milfoil, Knight’s Milfoil, Thousand Leaf, Carpenter’s Weed
Planetary energy: Venus + Mars
Element: Water + Air
Energy: Protective, healing, harmonizing, courageous

HISTORY + FOLKLORE
Myth + Legend: Named for the Greek hero Achilles, who carried yarrow into battle to staunch the bleeding wounds of his soldiers. In Norse lore, yarrow was sacred to Odin and used in love divination and protective charms.
Folk Medicine: A steadfast ally in European, Chinese, and Indigenous traditions for wound care, fevers, menstrual balance, and digestive relief.
Ritual Lore: Burned to banish fear, worn to draw courage, and laid across thresholds to guard against harm. In some traditions, yarrow flowers were hung over cradles to protect newborns from spiritual danger.

MEDICINAL + SKIN BENEFITS
Skin Soothing: Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial — ideal for calming rashes, soothing bites, and aiding in the repair of minor cuts or abrasions.
Circulation + Repair: Traditionally used to stop bleeding (styptic) while also supporting circulation — helping the skin and tissues repair more quickly.
Balancing: Supports menstrual health, easing cramps and regulating cycles when taken internally as tea or tincture.
Digestive Ally: Gentle bitter tonic for digestion and liver support.

RITUAL USES
Smoke: Burn dried yarrow leaves or flowers to invite courage before a challenge or to cleanse spaces where fear or discord lingers.
Steep: Sip as a tea to call in harmony between heart and mind, or to warm the body after emotional coldness.
Steam: Use in facial steams for skin repair, or in yoni steams for soothing and balancing pelvic energy.
Carry: Keep a sprig of dried yarrow in your pocket for courage in confrontation or protection in unknown places.
Bath: Infuse in a warm bath to release tension and call in emotional bravery.

WYLDE GOLD NOTES
Yarrow is for the woman who stands barefoot in the storm — unshaken, unafraid. She knows when to fight and when to heal. This is the plant you call on when you need to stitch yourself back together — not just the skin, but the spirit.

WG Ritual Prompt: Before a big step, light a small bundle of dried yarrow. As it smolders, speak aloud the fears you are ready to burn away. Inhale deeply, feeling the smoke braid strength into your chest. Step forward with the scent of the meadow and the marrow of a warrior.
