Botanical name: Solidago spp.

Planetary energy: Sun + Jupiter
Element: Air + Fire
Energy: Abundance, guidance, resilience, radiance

HISTORY + FOLKLORE

Myth + Legend: Goldenrod was long seen as a treasure-finder — folklore tells that the stalk bends toward hidden gold or true love. In old European tales, she was carried to guide the seeker’s path toward fortune or clarity.
Folk Medicine: Cherished by Indigenous, European, and Chinese herbalists for centuries — goldenrod has been used for kidney and bladder health, easing colds and coughs, and as a poultice for wounds.
Ritual Lore: Burned in harvest fires for abundance, carried in charms for prosperity, or placed in the home to brighten energy. A plant of resilience — blooming golden when the rest of the meadow begins to fade.

MEDICINAL + SKIN BENEFITS
▸ Urinary + Kidney Ally: A diuretic and anti-inflammatory herb — long used to ease kidney stones, bladder irritation, and urinary tract infections.
▸ Respiratory Support: Clears mucus and soothes inflamed tissues — easing seasonal allergies, sore throats, and lingering coughs.
▸ Skin Soother: Infused into oils, goldenrod calms rashes, bug bites, and sore muscles. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it a golden healer for the skin.
▸ Mood + Grief: Taken as tea or tincture, goldenrod uplifts the spirit, supporting those moving through loss, heaviness, or fatigue.

✦ SIP (Tea, Tonic, Infusion)
Goldenrod tea is earthy, floral, and grounding.
▸ Harvesting:Pick flowering tops + young leaves in the morning after dew has dried, but before the midday heat. Use only bright, clean blossoms (avoid ones already turning fluffy/going to seed). Give them a quick rinse if dusty, then gently pat dry.
Steep 1–2 teaspoons of the dried flowering tops in hot water for 10–15 minutes. She supports the kidneys and urinary tract, eases bloating and inflammation, and soothes seasonal allergies or colds. Sip her when you need resilience, when grief lingers in the body, or when you want to call the golden sun back into your cells.

✦ SKIN (Oil, Balm, Bath)
▸ Infuse dried goldenrod flowers and leaves in a nourishing oil (jojoba, olive, or your tallow blends) for 4–6 weeks. Strain and use as:
▸ Massage oil for sore muscles and joints — goldenrod eases aches like a balm of sunlight.
▸ Face or body balm when blended with beeswax or tallow — for calming irritation, rashes, and tired skin.
▸ Bath oil — a few drops swirled into warm water infuses your body with her golden glow.

✦ SMUDGE (Burn, Smoke, Charcoal)
▸ Once dried, goldenrod can be bundled like sage or crumbled into loose incense. Burn on charcoal, or offer into the fire:
▸To call in abundance, prosperity, and opportunity.
▸ To uplift heavy moods with her sunny essence.
▸ As an equinoctial offering — she carries the last golden fire of summer into autumn.

✦ RITUAL (Altar, Offering, Charm)
▸ Place a fresh stalk on your altar to call in radiance, wealth, and self-worth.
▸ Scatter petals in bath salts or circle work to weave joy into your ritual space.
▸ Folklore whispers: goldenrod leans toward treasure — carry a sprig when seeking what’s hidden, whether that’s love, clarity, or direction.

✦ ESSENCE
Goldenrod is the late-summer torchbearer, blazing gold in the fields when other flowers fade. She stands tall and resilient, teaching you to do the same. Her medicine is courage, abundance, and the confidence to follow your own true path.

Mantra: I carry the sun within me. I stand tall. I glow with golden abundance

Goldenrod is for the one who stands tall when seasons shift — radiant, rooted, untamed. She is both healer and guide, whispering: You carry the sun within you. When you feel yourself dimming, she reminds you that your glow is not borrowed light — it is your own.

WG Ritual Prompt: On the cusp of change, place a stalk of goldenrod on your altar.
▸ Light a candle beside it and speak aloud what you seek — abundance, clarity, or courage. As the flame flickers, see the golden fields within yourself. Stand tall, radiant, and unshaken.
